Most people in Sharjah give themselves a weekend to move house. It is usually the weekend before the tenancy contract ends, the building has not been told, the boxes were bought the night before, and the mover was found on a WhatsApp group that morning. It gets done — it always gets done — but it is expensive, exhausting and the deposit takes months to come back.
The alternative is not complicated. It is two weeks, a short list, and doing things in the right order.
Two weeks out: paperwork and the quote
The first week is admin, and it is the week most people skip.
Tell both buildings. Nearly every apartment tower in Sharjah — Al Nahda, Al Taawun, Al Majaz, Al Khan, Al Qasimia — needs notice before a move, along with a copy of the tenancy contract and Emirates ID. Many want the service lift booked for a slot; some hold a small deposit against lobby damage. This takes days, not hours, and it applies at the new address too. Villa compounds have their own rules, often about truck access and gate hours.
Request the SEWA final bill. The clearance certificate is one of the documents landlords ask for before returning a deposit. Put the request in now so it is ready when you hand over the keys.
Get a proper quote. Not a number over the phone — a written quote based on a site visit or, at minimum, a room-by-room list of what is going. It should say how many crew, what size truck, whether packing materials are included, whether beds and wardrobes are being disassembled and reassembled, and what happens if something is damaged. Two quotes that look AED 300 apart often turn out to cover very different services once you read them.
This is also the moment to check credentials. Any legitimate moving company in the UAE holds a trade licence and will show it. Photograph anything with cables. TV, router, sound system. One photo saves half an hour of guessing at the other end.
Leave the furniture to the crew. If you have paid for a full-service move, the disassembly, wrapping and reassembly are their job, and they will do it faster and better with the right materials — blankets and padding, not just stretch film.
Moving day: start early, brief once, check at the end
Start at seven in summer, eight in winter. The crew works faster before the heat builds, and if the move crosses into Dubai, an early start clears the truck before the evening traffic on Al Ittihad Road.
Walk the crew through the property once before they touch anything. Point out what is fragile, what needs special handling and what is not going. Then let them work — a good team has a sequence, and standing over every box slows it down.
At the new address, be there before the truck with the lift booked and the move-in permission ready. Check items off as they come in. Open the wardrobes, sit on the bed, look at the table edges. If something has been marked in transit, note it on the delivery paperwork before the crew leaves.
