Dubai’s Operations Room of Civil Defence was notified of an emergency alarm at 7.06 am regarding a fire incident in the JBR area,” says an official statement. Al Marsa Fire Station immediately deployed Emergency Response Units which reached the site in 7 minutes.
The blaze was in an under-construction building and was a medium-scale fire, authorities said. At 08:51 am the field commander advised that cooling was under way to ensure there was no chance of a reignition.
A spokesman for the Al Habtoor Group told Her World attendees earlier on in the day that it was a minor fire at a construction site near the Al Habtoor Grand Resort, Autograph Collection in Dubai Marina.
Multiple emergency sirens had been heard by people in the vicinity and videos posted online displayed dense smoke rising from the construction site.
The fire was sparked by the “ignition of some materials stored at the site,” said Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor.
The site will be turned over to appropriate authorities once cooling is completed.
Al Habtoor lauded the professionalism and quick response Dubai Civil Defence teams had in limiting the fire within an early time frame and keeping the surrounding workers and residents safe.
