Dubai Approves First Al Khail Street Corridor to Ease Sheikh Zayed Road Traffic

First Al Khail Street Development Plan

Dubai Greenlights Major Road Corridor to Improve Traffic Flow

Dubai, UAE has announced a major road infrastructure development project, which has the potential to greatly enhance the mobility of the city. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has signed the First Al Khail Street Development plan, allowing the road a new transport corridor alongside Sheikh Zayed Road, on Wednesday July 1, 2019. The new development will alleviate congestion on one of Dubai’s busiest highways and also act as a vital connection point between multiple high-density residential and business properties.

Travel Time to Drop by 51%

The approved plan anticipates up to 51% reduction in travel times on Sheikh Zayed Road during peak hours. Road capacity will also go up by approximately 9,000 vehicles per hour, easing the lives of thousands of people who travel along the roadways every day. The project will positively impact around 2.6 million people in Dubai.

15-Kilometre Elevated Road Planned

An important aspect of the development will be a 15-kilometer-long overpass superhighway with a three-lane system on each side. The corridor will enhance movement to the key destinations, such as:

  • Al Barsha
  • Al Quoz
  • Business Bay
  • Meydan

The new road is expected to offer an alternative to Sheikh Zayed Road and will enhance the overall road connectivity system in Dubai.

Construction Timeline

The building is expected to start in Q3/2027. The project is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2030, when those who use the motorway are expected to experience faster travel times and better traffic distribution.

Executive Council Approves Additional Strategic Projects

In addition to the road project, the Dubai Executive Council sanctioned multiple long-term initiatives to support Dubai’s growth for the future.

Dubai Cultural Strategy 2033

The Council accepted the Dubai Cultural Strategy 2033, which proposes to make Dubai a hub of creativity, innovation, cultural heritage and artistic talent. The urban planning initiative is based on the city’s population reaching 4,580,000 by the end of 2025, allowing better planning for housing, transport, education and healthcare.

Emirati Talents Strategy for Private Education

The Executive Council adopted a plan to strengthen the participation of Emiratis in private education by 2033, through the development and hiring of Emirati teachers.

To make business easier by aggregating the investor in one register, ensuring companies and investors can operate across various economic zones without any repeated processes and clear of bureaucratic hurdles in pursuit of Dubai’s long-term investment ambitions.

New Address System

Islamic Finance Innovation Centre

Another big news was the opening of a Global Centre for Technology and Innovation in Islamic Finance, run by Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The centre will foster innovations, cooperation among industry and the nurturing of specialty talents in Islamic FinTech up to 2031.
