Since this year, Al Ain City Municipality,UAE has been planting over five million seeds of seasonal flowers yearly, as part of its continuous goal of beautifying its public spaces, increasing green surface in the city and enhancing the quality of life for both the Al Ain population and its visitors. The large-scale planting program is implemented via special urban beautification programs that take place in major roads, public parks, public squares and recreational spaces in the city. Decorative flower beds, planters and landscaped green spaces are carefully planned and maintained to harmonise with Al Ain’s infrastructure and public facilities.
30 Flower Species Selected for Al Ain’s Climate
The municipality has determined 30 seasonal flower species, which include 40 varieties, 20 colour ranges, according to Engineer Salama Shatit Al Dhaheri. The flowers are carefully chosen to suit Al Ain’s climate and environmental conditions, ensuring vibrant displays throughout the year. The variety of selections adds to creating a colourful landscape throughout the city and allows for the maintenance of healthy growth given local climatic conditions.
Modern Landscaping and Irrigation Systems
The programme is carried out by dedicated field teams, in strict observance of an extensive operational plan covering soil preparation, site-specific plant selection, modern cultivation methods as well as automated irrigation systems, explained Al Dhaheri. Throughout the year, regular maintenance is also performed to help keep the plants healthy, aesthetically pleasing, and viable in the City’s landscaping initiatives.
Supporting Sustainability and Environmental Balance
The project is part of the municipality’s urban beautification plan and will also be used to promote innovation and environmental sustainability, the municipality said. The programme seeks an efficient use of green space, ecological balance and a good quality public space providing a space in accordance with community expectations. These efforts are part of Al Ain’s efforts to reinforce its image as one of the most prominent green cities in the UAE, with appealing landscapes and environment for both locals and visitors, officials added.
