Abu Dhabi Bans Jet Ski Use in Saadiyat Island Protected Marine Zone

Abu Dhabi bans jet ski use in Saadiyat Island

The Abu Dhabi passage-where water skiing is permitted—will also be closed to all motorised watercraft, police said, which caused a sharp warning for operators of such vessels.

Protected Marine Area Off Limits to Jet Skis

The waters around the Dubai Saadiyat Island have been declared a protected zone and jet skis and other types of motorized devices are not allowed to be used. Abu Dhabi Maritime officially announced that use of jet skis and other motorized water devices is not permitted in the waters surrounding Saadiyat Island. All operators of jet skis and their passengers in the area have been advised to cease and desist operations and abide by the laws and procedures of the marine environment to preserve the fragile marine life on the island.

Authorities Warn of Legal Consequences

The maritime authority noted that legal measures would be taken in case of violation of these rules. The authorities asked visitors and residents to strictly abide by the requirements for the protection of the marine environment, fitness procedures and safety measures during the operation of water sports in water in the Emirate.

Part of Wider UAE Marine Safety Enforcement

The current alert comes within the framework of the UAE overall initiatives to enhance marine safety and environmental protection. Jets, which are powered by jet skis and resemble speedboats, are linked to many significant incidents of injury or even fatality, a fact that prompted Dubai police to conduct a broad sweep of unsafe operations last year. The action led to the confiscation of 431 violations and the seizure of 41 non-compliant jet skis.

Common Violations Recorded

Authorities noted various penalties in the course of their investigations, such as:

  • Using expired jet ski licenses
  • Accessing closures, including swimming areas and beaches at a hotel.
  • Failing to ride during the designated operating time
  • Not wearing life jackets or safety gear
  • Minor operating watercrafts
  • To carry passengers in excess of the number allowed

Fines for Jet Ski Rule Violations

Officials said penalties vary depending on the offence. Reported fines include:

Violation Fine
Expired jet ski licence Dh1,000
Not wearing a life jacket or helmet Dh1,000
Operating outside designated areas Dh1,000
Disturbing or harassing others Dh2,000

Authorities continue to encourage water sports enthusiasts to familiarize themselves with local maritime regulations to ensure safety and environmental conservation.
