Record-breaking rain in UAE – 5 areas surpassing 226mm

Record-breaking rain in UAE 5 areas surpassing 226mm

The severe downpour that escalated between March 24 and March 28, 2026 caused flooding and waterlogging in several emirates especially Sharjah and the surrounding areas.

As the statistics issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) show, five places received over 226mm of rainfall in a very brief time with the highest amount being over 244mm in one day.

Although the severity was high, the authorities explained that this weather system was not as serious as the April 2024 floods that were seen throughout the history of the country because the rain was not condensed into a limited duration but spread across several days and locations.

Indeed, it is remarkable to see that the five locations that receive the greatest rainfall are situated in the north, south, east, and west of Washington, D.C.

Jebel Yanas – 244mm (Ras Al Khaimah)

The highest rainfall was experienced in the country at Jebel Yanas where it amounted to 244mm. This mountainous region is situated in Ras Al Khaimah and lies within the Hajar range and this region is characterized by rugged nature with off-road access routes. It tends to get colder in the winter, and at times frosty.

Manama – 234.7mm (Ajman)

Ajman recorded 234.7mm of rainfall in town of Manama, which is an exclave of the city. The region is that of agricultural production which is located at an altitude of approximately 233 meters and yields fruits like papaya and lemon and quality sidr and simr honey.

Al Hayer – 234.1 mm (Al Ain)

In Al Hayer, which is a region between Dubai and Al Ain, there was a precipitation of 234.1mm of rain, thunderstorms and heavy winds. The storm system experienced heavy weather in the desert region.

Jebel Mebreh -229.7mm (Ras Al Khaimah )

This mountain is also referred to as Jebel Yibir and it received 229.7mm of rainfall in Ras Al Khaimah. It is also one of the highest points of UAE as it rises to about 1,527 meters above sea level and a favorite hiking destination.

Khatam Al Shaklah – 226.6mm (Al Ain)

Al Ain was covered with 226.6mm of rainfall at Khatam Al Shaklah. The region which is also a border crossing between the UAE and Oman has in the past registered one of the highest rainfalls ever during the April 2024 floods, with a figure of 254.8mm recorded within a period of less than 24 hours.

Weather System Overview

The weather started to become unstable on March 24 and lasted for several days, having different degrees in different areas.

The unstable weather ended officially on Saturday through the announcement by the authorities. Nonetheless, the NCM reported that there is another weather system that can lead to scattered rain within the UAE on Tuesday and Wednesday.
