Abu Dhabi: The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority has officially verified that the UAE alert system is geolocation-based, which implies that only inhabitants of the impacted regions can be warned about the missiles.
The government explained this biased nature as not a vice, but rather the condition of alerts that are based on the location, gravity and effects of the threat. The system does not have much accuracy because some residents can still perceive sounds of incidents occurring nearby without being alerted.
Previously, the updates added the support of varying levels of alert tones based on time: sounds are heavier during the day and softer at night to avoid disruption.
Authorities stressed that the system is one of the most important safety measures, and people should adhere to official recommendations, find shelter in case of alerts, and avoid open spaces.
In March, earlier NCEMA made some changes to the alert system to make it easier to use, especially at night. The new system has been revised with two time-of-day notification modes:
- 9:00 am- 10:30 pm: High tone alert, there will be a standard tone indicating the termination of the alert.
- 10:30 pm to 9:00 am: Both alert and end notification standard text message tone.
