Dubai Police UAE declared it was the focus of a significant cross-border crackdown with more than 276 suspects arrested and a massive global system of cross-border fraud disrupted, authorities said on Wednesday.
It was an operation conducted in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Chinese law enforcement agencies under a code named Tri-Force Sentinel. Authorities talked of it as a brutal strike against three organized criminal networks that came up with layered financial frauds.
Authorities show that most of the individuals who were arrested are citizens of Southeast Asian States and were associated with an international scam ring based in more than one jurisdiction.
The well-coordinated operation saw investigators close nine fraud centers that operated high-yield investment schemes (HYIS), also known as pig butchering schemes and use of virtual currency fraud schemes. Such schemes are characterized by the possibility of manipulating and defrauding victims over the long run and unrealistic investment opportunities.
The biggest success of the operation was the arrest of an important syndicate leader in Thailand. This occurred in conjunction with the Royal Thai Police which underlines the international nature and integration of the crackdown.
According to authorities, several key system parts were destroyed at the same time and this interfered with the infrastructures that facilitated such fraudulent activities.
The operation is part of more massive international continuous work by the UAE Ministry of Interior in the fight against transnational organized financial crime and the promotion of international security cooperation.
Authorities stressed that these kinds of coordinated actions are indicative of an expanding international interest in addressing the continually more challenging cyber-enabled financial offenses.
