Dubai International Airport (DXB), UAE, has informed surrounding residents and users that there may be minor disruptions and noise in specific areas due to ongoing efforts at Terminal 1 to enhance the terminal environment.
Dubai Airports announced on Thursday that works are currently underway in Terminal 1 as part of its initiatives to enhance the infrastructure at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The operator said its teams were active to reduce any inconveniences and maintain efficient airport operations during the entire construction process.
Dubai Airports’ project commenced in the wake of the successful project to upgrade the Terminal 1 bridge in the airport, which helped to facilitate a 20 per cent capacity boost during one of the airport’s peak travel seasons.
The contractors say the bridge widening was required due to the existing bridge operating beyond its limits. The complex project was implemented in the live Airport Environment and had to be planned very carefully to ensure that disruption to passengers and the provision of airport services was minimised throughout the project.
Major enhancements were made, such as the installation of the large steel spans overnight and the skilful organization of traffic control to close some roads during off-peak periods to minimise disruption. Another feature of the project was to increase the number of lanes on one of the main roadways to Terminal 1 from three to four lanes to improve vehicle flow and increase vehicle capacity on a critical access roadway to the terminal.
Dubai Airports pointed out that the upgrade was carried out without disrupting the users’ experience, as the airport is committed to achieving growth along with operational efficiency.
The latest works are also scheduled to be completed as the UAE’s aviation industry strives to bounce back from the temporary suspension of freedom of flight earlier this year. This weekend, it was brought back from February 28 by the country’s initial implementation of precautionary airspace measures in relation to regional security concerns associated with the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Dubai Airports entered the next stage of recovery on May 2 with a gradual return of airlines’ flight schedules and a rise in daily flight movements. The airport’s capacity enhancement plans continue to be closely aligned with air traffic management (ATM) regional counterparts to maximise traffic flow and ensure operational stability. Dubai Airports says the public should brace for noise during construction projects, as improvements continue, but it adds all efforts are being made to minimise nuisance.
