Dr Bushra Al Blooshi is widely recognized globally as one of the UAE’s leaders in cybersecurity and digital innovation.
Dr Al Blooshi currently serves as the Head of Research and Innovation at the Dubai Electronic Security Center (DESC), and since 2020, the only Arab representative in Davos Supply Chain Board of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Future Council on Cybersecurity.
She was born in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, and graduated from the UAE University in 2005 majoring in information technology and software engineering. She originally wanted to study medicine but for some reason got interested in coding and cybersecurity, which she learned on her own and in real-world scenarios.
Dr Al Blooshi went on to work for ADNOC as a software developer and learned to fit into the new coding systems, and grew her technical expertise swiftly. She later worked with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and later went on to obtain a doctorate in cloud cybersecurity from Khalifa University in 2015 whilst being a mother of three.
Her achievements have included securing one of her major Patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office that covers cloud cybersecurity. As a part of Dubai’s effort to transform into a Digital Dubai, she is also actively involved in supporting its digital transformation projects through the Dubai Digital Authority (DDA).
Dr Al Blooshi has emphasized the UAE leadership’s goal of focusing on technology and innovation and commended actions taken by His Holiness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to develop the UAE’s digital future.
With the UAE set to play a major role in the growth of Web 3.0 and metaverse technologies, Dr Al Blooshi feels the UAE has the potential to emerge as the global leader in providing cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions and new technologies. She stresses that innovation ought to be a matter of patents as well as a significant contribution to society.
