Abu Dhabi Police UAE have made a general warning to people regarding the increasing abuse of remote access applications in malpractices and encourage people to be alert to the outsmarting cyber frauds.
The authority states that remote control software, which is usually applied to lawful effects like technical assistance, remote working, and screen sharing, is being abused by fraudsters. Fraudsters are duping people into installing such applications on the pretext of providing some help or troubleshooting the problem.
When installed, these applications provide complete access to victims’ devices, allowing their attackers to steal sensitive personal and financial data, and, more often than not, steal money outright.
People were urged to be cautious in accepting unsolicited calls requesting them to install software or share confidential information. Abu Dhabi Police again announced that bankers and financial service providers do not demand sensitive information, including account details, credit cards, passwords, PINs or one-time passwords (OTP) over the phone or messaging.
The warning is a continuation of the fight against cyber crime in efforts to sensitized the masses on the increasingly advanced fraud schemes.
